I have made several attempts to download desktop software for my Blackberry and the process stops during the install wizard leaving me with a box headed "windows installer 5.0" followed by a lot of code.
The software has downloaded successfully on my laptop
so I don't think the problem is at Blackberry.

Almost every time I put a blank DVD or CD into my DVD ROM drive I get the BSOD with the following error message: DRIVER-IRQL-NOT-LESS-OR-EQUAl (storport.sys) and then the computer reboots.

·        What is the exact error message that you encounter when you try to open the Adobe file in Internet explorer?
In addition to the Tomas Dabasinskas suggestions, I would suggest you follow the steps mentioned below.
 
Step 1: Open Adobe reader as a different file.
a.       Open Adobe Acrobat Reader and click Edit and Preferences.
b.      Choose Internet in the Preferences window.
c.       Uncheck Display PDF in browser option and close the dialog.
d.      Repeat the same and this time, enable the Display PDF in browser option.
Now check whether you are able to open the PDF files in the Internet Explorer without any issues.
 
Step 2: Repair Adobe
a.       Close all Internet Explorer windows (not minimize)
b.      Open Adobe Reader 9
c.       Go to Help and select Repair Adobe Reader Installation
d.      When complete, perform the above process for the Internet
e.      Close Adobe Reader 9 when done
f.        Open Internet Explorer
Check whether the issue is resolved.
 
Step 3: Uninstall Adobe Reader from the system and reinstall it again.
 
a.       Click on Start menu and type in Programs and Features in the start search box.
b.      Locate adobe reader and right click on it.
c.       Click on Uninstall and completely remove it from the system.
d.      From the adobe website download the latest version of Adobe reader and install it on the system.

Windows Recovery - Totally Fix All Errors including Downloading PDF files using Internet Explorer 8

• Click on the Start button on the Taskbar.
• Type "System Restore" (without quotes) in the Search box and hit Enter or,
• Click on System Restore (when you see System Restore pop up  in the list of search results).
• Make sure the "Recommended restore" radio button is checked on the restore utility window.
• Click on Next and follow the instructions given.

Note: There is the option on the restore utility to select "Choose a different restore point". Unless you have a specific reason to select a different date and time than what Windows recommends, just select the recommended option stated in the steps above. If you choose to select another one, follow these steps:

Click on that desired date and time, and Windows 7 will perform a scan for any affected programs in that restore point.

Once completed, click Next and follow the instructions given.

Once you have selected the restore point, your system will start the restoring process, after which you will have to restart the system.
