How to Resolve - Alphanumeric Page Numbers In Word?

Alphanumeric Page Numbers In Word

I am not a very good Word user so I apologize in advance if this question seems to be very basic!

I am using Word 2007.
I am in Section 4 of my document and I want to change the formatting of the Page Number in the Footer.
In Section 3, the Page Numbers began at 1 and ended at 68.
In Section 4, I want the first
page of that section to be F-1, the second page to be F-2, the third page to be F-3, and so on and so on in that Section.

How do I do this?

Thanks so much.

Open the footer in section 4 and unlink it from the footer in section 3.
Restart numbering at 1.
Then type F- before the page number in the footer.
This will give you the display you want for that section, but the "F-" will
not be included in the TOC.

If you need this format to be displayed in the TOC, the only way to accomplish that is to use the "Include chapter number" feature in the Page Number Format dialog.
The "chapter number" must be the paragraph number of an autonumbered paragraph
in one of Word's built-in heading styles.
That means that you must have a heading somewhere on the first page of section 4, and it must have the "number" F.

If you have used the same heading style for this section that you have used for previous sections, then that will have to change because you're going to add numbering to this one.
So pick some unused heading level.
Say you've used Heading 1, 2, and 3 already
in your document.
So use Heading 4 or 5.
Modify the format to match whatever heading style you were already using.
Then use the Define New Multilevel List dialog to add A, B, C numbering to that heading level.
Start the numbering at F.
Remove any punctuation
following it and set "Follow number with" to "Nothing." Then click Font...
and format the number as Hidden.
The number will not show up on your heading but will be reflected in the page number.

If you need this heading to show up in the TOC at the same level as other (higher-level) headings, then, in the Table of Contents Options dialog, change its 4 or 5 to 1, 2, or 3 as appropriate so that its entry will use the TOC 1, TOC 2, or TOC 3 style.

Note that any subheadings in this section can use other built-in heading styles (Heading 1, 2, or 3), and they will show up in the TOC as expected.
They don't need to be numbered because the page numbering has already been accomplished with the one heading
numbered F.

Alternatively, if you don't want to modify one of the existing headings in section 4, you can add a new Heading 4 or 5 (that is, some unused level), applying numbering as described, but instead of formatting the numbering as Hidden, you can format the entire
paragraph as Hidden so that it doesn't actually appear in the text at all when printed.

Office Apps reconfigure every time they are started

Look at the event handler for error messages.
In one case it was showing an error that
HKLM/Software/Classes/.msg could not be accessed.
This is how I fixed it:
·Using Regedit navigate to the reg key identified in the error
·When accessing Permissions, I got an error message, but ignored that.  Open the Permissions window
·click on the "Advanced" button.
·Then select the "Owner" tab,
·set the owner as "Adminstrators".

·Click Apply and OK.
·Close Regedit,
·Run the application again, the Configuration process will run.  Then close Outlook.
·Open Regedit again
·locate the same Classes/.msg key.  You should now see a number of sub keys.
·For each sub key
, right click on it to select Permissions.
·Click on the "Advanced" button,
·then the "Owner" tab,
·set the owner as "Administrators",
·click Apply and OK.
·On the security tab, click on the Add button.
·Add "SYSTEM" as a new user, and put a tick next to "Full Control".
·Click Apply and OK, and you should then see other users added.
·Repeat the above for all sub keys.
·Close Regedit,
·reboot.
If there is no error message, ie normal operations try adding the NoReReg key, ie manual method:
Before you close up shop and start working on this reg fix, open the version of Word that you will want to be your default.
In other words, say you have two versions of Word on your system.
You want to use 2007, but you want 2003 to be the version
that opens by default when you click on a DOC file.
Open Word 2003 before you insert the fix below.
This will ensure that Word 2003 is the last version opened and it will, if necessary, reset the registry to that version.
(More on getting around this default
in the next section.)
·Now make sure Word (office apps) is closed
·Start regedit  R> and type REGEDIT
Note that if this doesn't do anything, you're using a system where the administrator has taken away your ability to edit the registry so you don't mess it up!
·Once within the registry, click the + (plus sign) to expand the
/HKEY_CURRENT_USER/ folder.

·Scroll down and locate the /Software/ folder and expand that one.
We have a long journey ahead, so hang in there!
·Once within the Software folder, scroll down that branch of the folder tree until you find the folder for
/Microsoft/.
Click the + to expand that one.

·Now scroll down to locate the /Office/ folder.
·There you'll see the numbered versions of the Office versions you have:
2010 is 14.0
2007 is 12.0
2003 is 11.0
2002 is 10.0e.

·This fix can be used for all recent versions.
Or at least, I know it works as far back as 2000.
I can't confirm anything earlier.
But if you're still using a version older than 2000, speed is obviously not an issue for you!
Expand the folder for the version you want to speed up.
(Note, this speed up fix will only help you if you are running multiple versions.
So if you only have one version of Office on your system.
Don't bother with this setting, as it won't do anything for
you.)
·Move to the /Word/
folder and expand that.
Almost there!
·Okay, locate the /Options/
folder and select that one.
This is the folder where you'll be adding a new registry key.
·With the Options folder selected in the route we took above, click Edit > New > DWORD Value
·This will insert a new registry key into the Options folder.
It will be highlighted in edit mode so you can go right ahead and start typing the name of this key:
NoReReg

Hit the Enter key after typing the name to have the name accepted.

·Now double click this new key to open it.
The Value data will read 0 (zero) by default.
Change that setting to the number 1
·click OK to accept that value.

Then close the registry.
You did it!
So what is it that you've done? Well, you went into the Word registry settings for the version of Word you selected and you set a new registry key.
The key is an option that stops Word from reregistering itself if another version is the current default.
The value of 1 means Yes.
So the NoRereg (no reregistering) is set to Yes...i.e., don't do it! This will cause Word to ignore the default version and just open, without taking several minutes to go through the reregistering hassle.
Shortcut method:
· to start run dialog
·enter this command
reg add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Word\Options /v NoReReg /t REG_DWORD /d 1
repeat for each office app and each version installed

Manually editing the Windows registry

Manually editing the Windows registry to remove invalid MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION keys is not recommended unless you are PC service professional. Incorrectly editing your registry can stop your PC from functioning and create irreversible damage to your operating system. In fact, one misplaced comma can prevent your PC from booting entirely!

Caution: Unless you an advanced PC user, we DO NOT recommend editing the Windows registry manually. Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall Windows. We do not guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

To manually repair your Windows registry, first you need to create a backup by exporting a portion of the registry related to MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION (eg. Windows Operating System):

  • Click the Start button.
  • Type "command" in the search box... DO NOT hit ENTER yet!
  • While holding CTRL-Shift on your keyboard, hit ENTER.
  • You will be prompted with a permission dialog box.
  • Click Yes.
  • A black box will open with a blinking cursor.
  • Type "regedit" and hit ENTER.
  • In the Registry Editor, select the Error 0x9C-related key (eg. Windows Operating System) you want to back up.
  • From the File menu, choose Export.
  • In the Save In list, select the folder where you want to save the Windows Operating System backup key.
  • In the File Name box, type a name for your backup file, such as "Windows Operating System Backup".
  • In the Export Range box, be sure that "Selected branch" is selected.
  • Click Save.
  • The file is then saved with a .reg file extension.
  • You now have a backup of your MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION-related registry entry.

How to Fix Error - Application hang resulting system administration failure?

Application hang resulting system administration failure

I have this online game client Cabal Online that I run without problems for more than a year on my computer.
Lately however it's been causing me system errors that is rather critical from my point of view.

Here's what happens.
About 3 weeks ago when I run this application there seems to be a corrupted file and the game won't start.
I repatched the application data and it worked for a week, after that the situation worsens.
Now, whenever I run the program,
it successfully runs the patch update, executes the INCA GameGuard rootkit, and the computer freezes.
The application will open up a window which immediately goes into Not Responding state, and I have to terminate the program.
Here's where it gets serious.

When I right click on desktop, trying to refresh, it goes into freeze state; the loading ring keeps turning and the computer won't respond.
Then if I right click again, the desktop dims and Windows error reporting indicates explorer.exe has stopped responding
bla bla bla.
When I press "close the program", explorer.exe closes, but will not restart.
Even after I ran through ALT+CTRL+DEL to call out task manager trying to execute it from there, it won't respond.

Here's some other troubles I found while exploring the problem.
They started to happen after I run the game client and it completes executing the rootkit update check.

**Any double clicks on any desktop icons requiring administrator privilege will freeze the computer.
**Any clicks on taskbar icons will not result in response.
**Windows Start Button calls out an empty interface: All programs does not list anything, typing a program name in the "search program and file" box returns no response, any clicks on any other links, ie Control Panel, Computer, Documents etc will cause
the computer to freeze.
**Instead of it's usual icon, the Favorites Tab (if I did not close the previous explorer interface after executing the game application) will instead show white page icons for Desktop, Downloads, Recent Places tab.
Any clicks on these tabs freeze the
computer.
**If my guess is right after troubleshooting the problem till now, almost all tasks and processes that requires administrator privileges will freeze the computer.
**The computer however do respond to ALT+CTRL+DEL.
It can lock the computer, log off, switch user, even running task manager, but there's no going back into the account after logging off.
Logging in again via this method will bring me to the wallpaper,
and the computer won't respond no longer.
**Other concurrent running programs such as Google Chrome will not be affected, I can still run them if they are previously executed, however they will not longer be able to run when I minimize the program.
**Restarting the computer or shutting down the computer does not return a response.
In simpler terms, I cannot restart nor shut down the machine.
The only way to do it is either to turn off the main plug or force shut down with the power button.
Any other
methods won't work.

Until now, all the above problems only happen when I run this particular Cabal Online Client.
I am not sure if the rootkit is the problem, considering that I do have other games that uses the same rootkit application and never encounter these errors.
The
client also runs perfectly fine on my other Windows 7 notebook machine.

Viewing Event Viewer throws very limited light on the issue, apart from a logged instance of explorer.exe failing, the Windows Error Reporting in running and stopped state, and the critical error from Kernel about the force shut down.

Here's what I got from Action Center:

Another Hyperlink Editing Task

Greetings!

Throughout a long EXCEL 2010 spreadsheet, I have numerous hyperlinks that must be edited, but do to the large number of them, it would take forever to do it one by one.

Is it possible to search and edit many hyperlinks in one fell swoop?

The hyperlinks are (the details have been hidden, and each hyperlink is different in the first part):

BEFORE macro is run:

or
c:\hhhhhhhhhhhh\cccccccc\ddddddd\ttttttttttt\00 CLV NEW.RTF#OLE BLAH BLAH BLAH ETC.

AFTER macro is run:
00 CLV NEW.RTF#OLE BLAH BLAH BLAH aaaaaa etc.
00 CLV NEW.RTF#OLE BLAH BLAH BLAH bbbbbbbbb etc.

In other words, delete everything before the bold (00 CLV etc), and keep everything

How to Fix - After 8.1 update waking up from sleep mode fails and computer shuts down?

After 8.1 update waking up from sleep mode fails and computer shuts down

After the latest Windows 8.1 updates (KB2957390, KB2933809, KB2919355) whenever I try to wake my computer (HP h8-1090t) from sleep mode with the power button, it shuts down instead of waking up.
I have tried changing power options and plans but sleep mode
continues to have this behavior from before the updates.
Instead of getting the computer going quickly out of sleep mode, when I press the power button to wake up the computer it shuts down instead and I have to press the power button again and obtain a cold
and long computer boot up.
