Cannot get rid of old message

I purchased a HP Paviilion dv5=1002nr Entertainment Notebook PC about 8 months ago...I tried in the very beginning to do a system backup and I was using a writeable CD in the side cd disk drive..(labeled as D:).  I didn't know this wasn't big enough to
hold all the information and I got a disk full message.  I removed the disk (it was the only one I had) and had to abort this task.  I threw the disk away as it was no good.  For the past months until now, I keep getting an error message saying "disk is full,
delete or clean up unnecessary files on this disk to free space".  This message comes up at start up each time I turn on the c omputer and I don't know how to delete this old irrelevant message.  My question is  how do I fix this problem.   I have no technical
abilities and don't know what to do.   Thank you for your help...Charmatta

This might not neccessarily be connected to the incomplete backup.  You should run the disk cleanup tool.  To do this, click the Windows Start Orb (or press the Windows logo key on your keyboard) and in the seach field simply type
disk cleanup.  In the search results, click on the Disk Cleanup tool.  Select to cleanup All users files, and then Drive C.  It will scan for a short time and show you what can be removed.  Click on each item to read a description of what each
is.  Select whichever options are appropriate for your needs and then OK.
